Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says his side lacked the quality to put Bournemouth away as their winless run stretches to three Premier League games at Vitality Stadium.

The Blues travelled to the south coast looking to return to winning ways after a shocking 3-1 defeat against relegation-battling Leeds United in midweek.

However, they were held to a goalless draw by a spirited Bournemouth side who had failed to win any of their previous five Premier League games before hosting Chelsea.

The Blues were under siege from the get-go, and a narrow offside call denied Antoine Semenyo his first league goal since the start of October.

The Cherries piled on the pressure, but Chelsea slowly grew into the game. Maresca’s side had a few chances to take the lead but couldn’t find the right final pass or take their chances.

The game was there for the taking, but neither side could find a winning goal and ultimately settled for a share of the spoils.

The result means Chelsea have now gone three league games without a win, although they still managed to retain their spot in the top four.

Speaking after the game, Maresca wasn’t entirely disappointed with his side’s performance but admitted that they lacked the quality to put the Cherries to the sword.

“I think we tried to win the game,” Maresca said (via BBC). “We had some chances. I said many times it’s important not to lose when you don’t win.

“We missed a bit of quality in the last third, but we need to go again on Tuesday.”

One of the positives from the contest was Cole Palmer’s return, with the England international making his first Premier League start since September.

However, while the Blues welcomed their talisman back on the pitch, they were handed yet another injury scare as Liam Delap was forced off with a shoulder injury.

Maresca offered no clear indication about the severity of the issue after the game, but Chelsea will hope their number nine isn’t sidelined for too long.
