AS Monaco manager Sébastien Pocognoli has provided a medical update ahead of the Principality club’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Eric Dier will miss out for Monaco, as confirmed by Pocognoli. The Englishman suffered a hamstring injury last week, which also ruled him out of the weekend’s draw against SCO Angers. “He is disappointed to be injured because I felt he really wanted to start the journey with me from last weekend,” began the manager in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
He added, “For sure, he will miss the Tottenham Hotspur game and it can be deeply disappointing for him.” Paul Pogba will also miss the game, although following a minor setback in his recovery, he did train with the squad this week.
“The process with Paul is step by step. Yesterday, he joined with the group for the first time since I arrived as manager. He was smiling, he was enjoying it, and interacting with the players. For me, this is the first step and this step can take days, it can take two or three weeks,” said Pocognoli.
Pocognoli also revealed that Christian Mawissa has returned to first-team training, although the Tottenham Hotspur game may come too soon for the France youth international. Whilst the Belgian manager confirmed no fresh injury blows, Lukas Hradecky, Vanderson, and Lamine Camara are all also out.
