Erin Cuthbert is still going strong at Chelsea after nine years with the Blues

Chelsea superstar Erin Cuthbert has admitted that she is still learning the ropes in midfield despite being a nine-year veteran in the WSL.

Cuthbert has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea setup since she signed for the Blues in 2019.

Although she is one of the most experienced players in England, Cuthbert isn’t afraid to admit that she is still learning the game.

“As much as everybody says, ‘oh, you’re such an experienced player’, I totally agree, but in the same vein, I’m still in my maturity phase in midfield where I’m still learning the ropes.

“I have to adapt my playing ability to different players, which is quite exciting and something I really enjoy. I’m almost the flexible one within it and I love my team-mates to shine. If I can bring out the best in them, then I’m one happy person.”

Chelsea have got off to a fast start in the WSL as usual and Cuthbert has been as involved as ever.

The 27-year-old started against Manchester City in Chelsea’s curtain raiser but only featured off the bench against Aston Villa last weekend.

Chelsea have played Cuthbert in various different positions during her career, but the long-serving Blues star is without a doubt best in midfield.

“It’s great to be a versatile player, but you don’t want to be labelled as that your whole career so I wanted to nail something down. I do enjoy the No 6 and No 10 positions, but I feel they’re both quite limiting.

“I see myself as more of a box-to-box [midfielder]. I can add a bit in the box and getting forward, but equally, I like to get stuck in and win some tackles for the team.”

Since she came to England, Cuthbert has won 12 trophies with Chelsea including seven WSL titles and is currently the Blues’ fifth all-time top scorer.

The Blues are once again short favourites with UK betting sites to win the league this year.

Chelsea face off against Leicester City on Sunday as they look to maintain their 100% record in the league.
