RCD Espanyol have appointed Marco Otero as technical director, with a brief to align the academy with the club’s long-term sporting vision.
He will oversee player development strategy and training methodologies, and lead technical programmes, youth recruitment processes and frameworks that promote progression to professional football and the first team.
Otero will work closely with sporting director Fran Garagarza.
Simultaneously, he has been named Head of Football Development across VSP, supervising player development and pathways for young talent throughout the group and promoting knowledge sharing and integrated structures between clubs.
The former Valencia CF academy technical director and technical director at Olympique de Marseille also served as a High Performance Specialist in FIFA’s Talent Development programme.
"I sat in Barcelona with his father and agents, with Jorge López. He was in the División de Honor, had an impressive Youth League and there was a tug of war with Barça over whether to let him train with the first team. In the end they recognised his quality," he told Superdeporte.
