Manchester United are indeed interested in signing both Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this summer, but have conceded that Newcastle United will make it near ‘impossible’ for both to leave, as per ESPN.

The Red Devils had identified Guimaraes and Tonali as suitable options to replace the departing Casemiro, who will pull the curtains on his Old Trafford tenure after four years when his contract expires in June.

United consider Tonali/Guimaraes as Casemiro replacement/s

Replacing such a seasoned veteran of the game won’t come easy, hence why United continue to be linked with a host of Premier League-proven players in the hope that they take little time to transition.

Reports have suggested that Casemiro himself put forward the suggestion of Guimaraes, 28, succeeding him when in discussions with club chiefs recently. However, from Newcastle’s point of view, the prospect of their captain, especially one who’s become such a beloved figure amongst the St. James’ Park faithful, joining United will be unthinkable.

While they still wouldn’t want to facilitate his departure by any means, a move for Tonali may be more feasible – especially after his agent has seemingly begun laying the groundwork for a transfer this year.

Tonali edging closer to Newcastle sale

Not only did the Italian’s representative offer him to Arsenal in the dying embers of the winter window, but he also went on to suggest that Tonali, 25, would pursue a Magpies exit in the event they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Heading into their clash with Chelsea this evening, they sit 12th-placed and 12 points off the top four.

As well as the pair on Tyneside, United are monitoring the likes of Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Carlos Baleba (Brighton and Hove Albion) and Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest).
