Leeds United collected the Sporting Pride of Leeds at the 2026 Leeds Sports Awards, Tony Dorigo accepting as captain Ethan Ampadu sent a thank-you message.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 23rd annual ceremony was staged at the city’s Carriageworks Theatre on Thursday night, hosted by Tanya Arnold and Jamie Jones-Buchanan, with awards in 16 categories.

Organisers hailed a season that went beyond results, saying the club helped unite the city through shared pride, passion and belief. Dorigo praised the growing bond between team and supporters as he received the award.

Ampadu thanked Leeds for the honour and reflected on a great year, highlighting how the bus parade captured the togetherness around the promotion back to the Premier League.

Ice hockey champions Leeds Knights were named performance team or club of the year. The sportsperson of the year prize was shared by Leeds Rhinos back Jake Connor, Olympic gymnast Luke Whitehouse and Great Britain lifesaving swimmer Samuel Lawman.

Swimmer Gabe Shepherd took young sportsperson of the year after his Commonwealth Games selection. Hannah Cockroft won disability sportsperson of the year, while Lizzie Deignan and former rugby union international Danny Care received Special Recognition awards.

Mike Tobin of Armley-based Tobin’s Gym accepted a Special Contribution award, as did badminton coaches Brian and Jill Wallwork. Dorigo also lauded Yorkshire grit and the facilities that help local talent thrive.
