Ethan Mbappé (18) scored the first goal of his professional career against Toulouse FC on Sunday. It was an important goal, too. His rifled half-volley in the 98th minute secured the win for Lille OSC.
It comes after a difficult past 12 months. Ethan Mbappé left formative club Paris Saint-Germain at the same time as his brother, Kylian, left to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. However, Ethan’s first season at Lille was blighted by injury issues that prevented him from getting into a rhythm.
Those injury issues carried into the current campaign, with the midfielder undergoing surgery back in May, which ruled him out of the start of the Ligue 1 season. However, back on the pitch, he was on the scoresheet for the first time.
And to celebrate his first goal, he gave a nod to his brother, imitating his famed celebration. “He should be happy. I gave him a little nod by doing his celebration. He scored yesterday, I scored today. I’m also thinking about my parents. They should be proud,” he said post-match, before revealing that his brother had also sent him a message after the game.
