As the hours count down towards the epic conclusion in Basel, we’ve gathered some stats and key information ahead of the showdown.

Euro 2025 final match stats and facts

This final will see a repeat of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, won 1-0 by Spain. This is only the second time there’s been the same fixture in back-to-back Women’s World Cup/Euro finals. Along with Germany versus Sweden (2001 Euro and 2003 World Cup), both subsequently won by the Germans.

England and Spain have faced each other three times previously at the Euros, with all those games coming in the three previous tournaments. Spain won one of the three matches, beating England 3-2 in the group stage of the 2013 tournament. England secured a 2-0 win during the group stage in 2017 and won 2-1 against them in the 2022 quarter-finals.

Having won Euro 2022 thanks to a 2-1 triumph over Germany at Wembley, England are seeking to lift the trophy again. If the Lionesses win, it would see them become the second nation to lift the trophy at consecutive tournaments, along with Germany in 1989, 1991 and 1995-2013.

Meanwhile, Spain will be seeking the trophy to become the first European nation to lift the FIFA Women’s World Cup and UEFA Women’s Euro at consecutive outings since Germany between 2001 and 2009. They have won their last nine games at major tournaments.

England manager Sarina Wiegman is looking to win a third consecutive Euros tournament. She lifted the trophy in 2017 with the Netherlands and again in 2022 with the Lionesses. Only two other managers have won it three times: Gero Bisanz (1989, 1991, 1995) and Tina Theune (1997, 2001, 2005), both with Germany. If England win, it will mean the last eight Euro tournaments have been won by just three managers, with Silvia Neid winning it in 2009 and 2013.

Players to watch: England

Impact from the bench: England have scored with a substitute in each of their last three Euro 2025 matches — Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones vs Wales, Michelle Agyemang vs Sweden, and then Agyemang again alongside Chloe Kelly against Italy. With five goals from substitutes overall, only Germany (8 in 2009) and England themselves (seven in 2022) have scored more at a single Euros.

Michelle Agyemang: The 19-year-old has scored in her last two Euro 2025 appearances. If she scores again, she will become the youngest player to score in three consecutive games at a major tournament (19 years, 174 days), breaking Vivianne Miedema’s record (21 years, 22 days). She is set to be a real threat to Spain’s backline, should she make an appearance in the final.

Chloe Kelly: Known for scoring crucial goals off the bench, Kelly netted the winner in both the 2022 final and this year’s semi-final against Italy. She leads the tournament in chances created (8) and successful corners (10) by a substitute since Opta began tracking major tournaments in 2011.

Players to watch: Spain

England’s biggest threat appears to be Spain’s stacked midfield.

Alexia Putellas: The Ballon d’Or winner has three goals and four assists at Euro 2025. This is more than any other player at the tournament. She has created the most chances (18) and has the highest pass accuracy under pressure (86.6%). However, she is still seeking her first knockout stage goal contribution at a major tournament.

Patri Guijarro: Completed 109 passes in the semi-final against Germany, the most by any midfielder in a game at this year’s tournament. Overall, she has completed 401 passes at this tournament, second only to Leah Williamson’s 461 in 2022.

Athenea del Castillo: Assisted Aitana Bonmatí’s semi-final winner and has contributed to six goals in her last seven appearances (5 goals, 1 assist), averaging a goal involvement every 40 minutes.

England vs Spain H2H stats

England and Spain have faced each other nine times at the Euros, with the first game taking place in 1993 and most recent in 2022. Out of these games, England have won three, Spain have won two and four games resulted in a draw. England have narrowly outscored Spain 11-9 across these matchups.

England and Spain faced each other in the 2023 World Cup final, where Spain won 1-0. They recently faced each other in the UEFA Nations League. England won the first game at Wembley 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jess Park. Spain took the reverse fixture 2-1 with goals from Clàudia Pina and Alessia Russo.
