Europa League: England hails Emery as Aston Villa three games from history | OneFootball

Unai Emery is being hailed across England. Aston Villa crushed Bologna 4-0 this week to win 7-1 on aggregate, leaving them only three matches from Europa League glory 43 years after their last continental title.

According to Superdeporte, the Basque coach has elevated Villa to their highest modern level, building unbeaten runs, delivering Champions League qualifications and going toe to toe with the Big Six.

Villa hold a solid fourth place in the Premier League, currently pushing Liverpool into fifth, and are again fighting to secure Champions League football.

The club won the European Cup in 1982 then the European Super Cup. A long drought followed, including spells near the bottom and three seasons in the second tier, until Emery’s arrival transformed their trajectory.

In Europe, last season only the eventual champions ended their run, and not without a struggle. This term their Europa League campaign has been assured, and Emery is close to writing his name deeper into Villa history.
