Southampton's relegation wounds have certainly put question marks about the competitiveness of the first-team roster. Consequently, Joe Aribo has also reflected on this shameful season which has put a significant stain on his Europa League pedigree.
Playing in the European leagues is treated as a measure of a footballer's individual quality on a broader stage. In this respect, being among the best throughout the entire continent can be considered as leaving behind a rich legacy.
One, which used to be associated with Southampton as well at some points in their history.
Unfortunately, that pride has been overshadowed by the humiliation that comes with dropping back to the second division every now and then. Subsequently, the players have also been on the receiving end of scathing criticisms from former players as well as rivals.
Further, it wasn't a while ago when Leeds manager Daniel Farke concluded that Cameron Archer wasn't an elite level striker.
Now these comments only serve to decrease the player's morale and hinder his future transfer plans. Knowing this, Europa League finalist Joe Aribo has opened up about his campaign assessment.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Aribo said in his own words: "I'm going to speak for myself personally, of course, it's embarrassing. I'm a winner and it's just a difficult time in my career for me, obviously, with what's going on with results. I think the boys have to stick together."
Let's be honest, the Saints can't overcome the relegation zone barring any miracle. That in itself looks a far fetched idea meaning taking a few wins should be the club's new short-term aim.
