Five Youth League heroes star in Europa League success

Yesterday's 2-0 home victory in the UEFA Europa League was an evening that not only secured three crucial points but also served as a clear affirmation of our Salzburg Way. In the success against Go Ahead Eagles, five players demonstrated just how seamless the transition from our youth ranks to European football can be: Christian Zawieschitzky, Jannik Schuster, Edmund Baidoo, Enrique Aguilar and Tim Trummer.

Those five did not just play cameo roles but have been integral members of our squad all season. The fact that they caused a sensation together last season by reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League and have now made a decisive contribution to a European wins makes us all the more delighted.

  1. Schlager's replacement kept a clean sheet - with the goalkeeper born in Mödling only tested by two shots on goal from the Dutch side. The 18-year-old also demonstrated complete composure when dealing with the ball and crosses from the opposition!

Jannik Schuster

  1. The tall centre-back with a family background in ski jumping also played the full 90 minutes and was a rock in the middle. Whether high balls or dribbles, Jannik stopped the Eagles in their path.

Edmund Baidoo

  1. Eddy came very close to getting on the scoresheet himself. The Ghanaian provided plenty of attacking impetus for 85 minutes and was primarily found on the right wing.

Enrique Aguilar

  1. The Swiss player came on in the final 15 minutes and had a tremendous impact, especially in pressing! The 18-year-old won possession once and also demonstrated his dribbling skills.

  1. Speaking of qualities, our young full-back is already well-known for them. The Austrian U21 international was given the opportunity to replace Baidoo in the final stages, primarily to secure the victory.

This European success gives us momentum for the next big domestic test. Before we head into the international break, we face SK Sturm Graz this Sunday in a huge match in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. With the same energy we showed on Thursday, we aim to continue our winning run of recent weeks.
