Everton strengthened their push for European qualification with a composed 2-0 victory over Burnley, ending a near three-month wait for a Premier League home win.
James Tarkowski broke the deadlock against his former club midway through the first half, rising highest to power James Garner’s in-swinging free-kick beyond Martin Dubravka. It was a deserved reward for Everton’s territorial dominance, even if clear chances had been limited.
The Clarets offered little threat in response and struggled to impose themselves for long spells.
The Toffees made the game safe just after the hour. Iliman Ndiaye slipped a clever pass through the defence and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall showed composure to lift a neat finish over the advancing goalkeeper for his sixth league goal of the campaign.
Idrissa Gueye nearly added a third late on, rattling the crossbar with a curling effort from distance, while Burnley failed to seriously test Jordan Pickford until the closing stages.
The win moves Everton within a point of seventh place and boosts optimism ahead of a challenging run of fixtures. For Burnley, meanwhile, an 18th defeat of the season leaves them eight points adrift of safety with time running out.
