Everton are not expected to activate the £25m purchase option in Tyrique George's loan from Chelsea.
George joined Everton on loan in the January transfer window but was given limited minutes to impress across the second half of the campaign. The 20-year-old made only one start in the Premier League and totalled just 210 minutes, despite the Toffees decline in results and performances across the run-in.
The Athletic are reporting that Everton are not prepared to meet the purchase option, though have not entirely ruled out re-signing George if new terms can be agreed. Everton are deliberating whether to negotiate a new deal with Chelsea or pursue other targets.
It's a similar stance to Jack Grealish. Everton hold an option to sign Grealish permanently for £50m but will not meet that fee.
The club remain open to bringing Grealish back to Hill Dickinson Stadium next season if the financial package of a deal makes sense. However, Grealish earns around £300,000-a-week at Manchester City and his wages represent a stumbling block to his return.
Everton are in the market for a right-sided forward, and both Grealish and George favour a role from the left. Alongside a right-sided player, Everton could enter the market for further wide options in the event of departures.
Dwight McNeil saw a transfer to Crystal Palace breakdown in the January transfer window and is expected to move on this summer. Iliman Ndiaye's future is also up in the air. The Senegal international has been open in his desire to play Champions League football, with reported interest from Premier League rivals.

Another potential goalscorer spurned. Such a pity.
But he was never going to get a decent run under the idiot that is our manager. Tyrique is far too forward-thinking in his approach to the game and shows an insatiable desire to run toward goal with the ball at his feet, and then actually try and score!
No doubt the fact that he failed to do so in the paltry handful of chances our Supreme Leader deemed him worthy of will be used to justify such a decision.

Michael
On X they are saying that while Everton wont make the transfer permanent they are trying to negotiate another loan deal, and speculation is they are trying to do another loan deal for Grealish. Maybe this is as much to do with how much is in the transfer kitty as whether the club want to sign George and Grealish on permanent deals. I would hope if they do another loan deal for George its with a guarantee to buy at the end of the loan deal.

The story I was told was that the club want him, but the kid doesn’t want to commit himself because he doesn’t have enough faith in the manager, giving him enough game time. The second part of the story was that Moyes, wants to sign Harry Wilson, instead.
Moyes, wants experience, I honestly don’t believe there is anything wrong with that, but I can see it now, he’s signing him to play in the team, whereas my own opinion is that we need to start concentrating a little bit more on the overall squad, rather than the team, otherwise we will never be able to push on whilst also trying to be competitive in the cup competitions.
Stu Darlington 6 Posted 24/06/2026 at 11:44:36
Agree with you about squad development Tony. Our squad has been too thin and lacking in depth and quality for too long now If we are to be contenders next season we need to have a squad of players capable of doing it,given all that can happen over a season with injuries, overseas cup competitions, friendly internationals etc. All seems to have gone quiet on the Harry Wilson front. Is it still a possibility or is he headed abroad?
Kevin Naylor 7 Posted 24/06/2026 at 11:48:33
Much rather sign Tomas Soucek said nobody,
Dave Lynch 8 Posted 24/06/2026 at 11:48:38
Harry Wilson signed for Leeds. Whilst our supposed manager is the other side of the world.
Clive Rogers 9 Posted 24/06/2026 at 11:50:08
Harry Wilson would be a “not very exciting” signing
Dave Lynch 10 Posted 24/06/2026 at 11:54:56
Clive, Wilson is a very good footballer, a late developer but so was Vardy.
David West 11 Posted 24/06/2026 at 12:05:20
I'd rather have Wilson myself. Another loan wouldn't be a bad move, especially if mcneil goes, Grealish still unknown and Ndiaye looking like he's off too.
Ian Bennett 12 Posted 24/06/2026 at 12:13:55
Harry Wilson scored 10 goals and 7 assists.
17 goal involvements is rather more exciting than what much of our players produce, including Tyrique George.
For all George's potential, if you want to win football matches, then we have to have players that will produce goals regularly.
Potential is meaningless if Everton football club are not the beneficiaries on the pitch.
Ian Horan 13 Posted 24/06/2026 at 12:24:55
Ian @12 to be fair to George he cant score or assist whilst sitting on the bench!! We will sign no dynamic pacey young players whilst KITAP1 remains our manager. Wr are in a sorry position and in anothet false dawn for our rebirth. Great new stadium and far better commercial deals getting found, sadly our football is still 20th century crap
Sean Herbert 14 Posted 24/06/2026 at 12:32:24
Not disappointed to see Wilson sign for Leeds. He has really only had the one good season and that was in an attacking team.
He was never going to produce the same output in a Moyes team
Ian Bennett 15 Posted 24/06/2026 at 12:56:00
How many goals and assists has he got in his 11 Epl appearences?
0 goals 0 assists 2 shots on target
I like him, I think there is more there over the longer term. However, the players need to push their own case by creating, scoring and hitting the target better than the above, regardless of who is in dugout.
This is cut throat sport, not charity. We need players that will step up to the plate.
Without hiding behind the manager has he truly stepped up? I think the answer is no, as he isn't able to deliver that just yet. Which is not unsurprising as he is still only a kid.
To be successful next season, we need a team of players that will deliver 60 goals plus. I struggle to see how the current side can get anywhere near that, so any signings coming in have to be around solving that issue.
Gavin Johnson 17 Posted 24/06/2026 at 13:45:50
As for George, I'm disappointed we're not taking up the option. I can see him going to another Premier League club being a success and us really regretting the decision.
Also, given reports over the last few days it looks like Moyes really wants Bowen, so maybe this could explain why we haven't got Wilson and are passing on George.
Personally, I'd take Bowen over both of them, but we shouldn't pay more than £30M to £35M. I know £20M was banded around at the weekend but West Ham aren't going to let their talisman go for just £20M.
If we sign Bowen, I would also expect Ndiaye to be sold...Would bringing in Bowen for about half the money we'd get for Ndiaye be good business...??
Joe McMahon 18 Posted 24/06/2026 at 14:00:54
Apologies fo the Industrial language, Michael, but I give up until that Parasite Wanker Moyes has gone. He just kills all hope and any enthusiasm we can cling too.
Life is getting shorter and I've had enough of this morose excuse of an (apparently) top level manager.
Mihir Ambardekar 19 Posted 24/06/2026 at 14:04:41
George was exciting with the ball but didn't score any goal or assisted any. We need someone with a proven output.
We missed out on Wilson. He seems to be perfect Moyes player. I fear for us as to what team we will have next season...
Andrew Ellams 20 Posted 24/06/2026 at 14:21:03
Sean @ 14. Spot on. He turns 30 this coming season and has only just had his first season of any real note.
Ian Horan 21 Posted 24/06/2026 at 14:52:37
Oh my word!!! What are people expecting from George after 271 minutes of game time.
He is a young footballer, not a magician or Messi-like player. If you are going to evaluate his outputs, or even his potential, let's have some reality... oh, and dare I say it... context!!!
271 minutes equates to 3 games. As for what we are becoming... sad times being a supporter. UTFTs
Alan J Thompson 22 Posted 24/06/2026 at 15:04:44
Sorry but this lad runs far too fast so it's Grealish for us with his ability to slow the game down and hold the ball up while the rest, well some of them, transform from their defensive duties, as has been demonstrated by those little moves with Dewsbury-Hall and Garner.
Signing George would give the manager headaches trying to get more players quickly into attacking positions. Where do these fanciful ideas come from? That bunch of Leeds lads on the transfer committee... eh? Or is there a penny counter amongst them?
Dan Brierley 23 Posted 24/06/2026 at 17:34:58
So the lad who can't get a game at Chelsea, who finished three points ahead of us despite our poor end to the season, is our left side saviour? To me, he is a Lookman Mk II, easy on the eye but little end product and no situational awareness, and could leave Mykolenko exposed far too often.
A squad needs a balance of experience and developing players. We already have enough young players in my view. We looked great with Grealish on the left, both in and out of possession. We should go all out to get him back in the side.
George has become the unfortunate victim (like Dibling) of the confirmation bias of those who think Everton would be challenging for Europe if Moyes gave youth a chance. Even though these youth players have shown nothing to suggest they deserve a chance.
Paul Griffiths 24 Posted 24/06/2026 at 22:12:13
Ian Bennett (12),
For all George's potential, if you want to win football matches, then we have to have players that will produce goals regularly.
How about some tweaking to give this the correct background.
Let's see: 'If you want to win football matches, then we have to give [promising] players sufficient game time'.
Brendan McLaughlin 25 Posted 24/06/2026 at 22:22:18
Paul #24
Surely all players have to earn game time?
John Collins 26 Posted 24/06/2026 at 22:31:36
How do you do that Brendan?
Brendan McLaughlin 27 Posted 24/06/2026 at 22:40:47
John #26
Impress the manager?
Alan J Thompson 28 Posted 25/06/2026 at 05:16:10
Dan (#23);
It's the best we can sign as the only players we get who are getting regular games in the Premier League are from newly relegated clubs; Pickford, Tarkowski, Keane, Dibling, McNeil...
Dewsbury-Hall, Garner and Grealish weren't exactly regulars at their previous clubs and Ndiaye had been up, down and out of the divisions.
How do you rate those from other countries? Patterson (he and Vlahovic at the World Cup), Beto, Barry, Mykolenko, Aznou and Rohl, while Gana was PSG and Villa.
As for youngsters being in the squad mix, I suppose that is Branthwaite, hardly a Premier League starter when we signed him, Armstrong, Iroegbunam and possibly Rohl and does Aznou even make the squad?
The BBC gossip column shows Everton in for a couple of 29-year-olds who'll turn 30 in the upcoming season, Bowen being one of them, at a minimum of £20M each. I wouldn't expect either of them to be a Messi or Ronaldo in 8 or 10 years time.
Mick O\\\'Malley 29 Posted 24/06/2026 at 07:49:35
Ian Horan @21 I completely agree, 3 full games of minutes in an Everton team that isn't exactly known for its attacking prowess and people have made their mind up, assists is a stupid metric to decide someone's ability because it needs the player at the end of the pass to put the ball in the net.
Regarding Harry Wilson, I'd have taken him, he can score all kinds of goals and he has had more than one decent season, he scores for Wales as well but as usual no context.
Regarding the teams he's played for, the lad has always grabbed goals and created chances, but our fans would sooner have an injury-prone Richarlison rolling around feigning injury -- because he "gets us"!
Malcolm Kitchen 30 Posted 25/06/2026 at 09:33:50
Totally agree (2) Michael, I just can't stand Moyes anymore, I wish he'd leave asap!
Glasner would be an excellent replacement -- forward-thinking successful manager in a short time. And (6) Stu, H Wilson is off to Leeds I hear.
One bit of positive news: Kevin Kilbane has told our great manager, to sign Troy Parrot who only scored 31 goals last season! So fingers crossed everyone!!!
Ian Bennett 31 Posted 25/06/2026 at 11:18:04
If you want to win football matches, then we have to give [promising] players sufficient game time'.
I think you describe how to develop a side Paul, but that isn't a guarantee to winning football matches.
The strategy might work if you have top notch players. But the current defence, strike force and much of the midfield isn't in that bracket. We can scrape together a moderate 11 or 12 players currently, but it goes to shit in a hand cart with injuries & fatigue.
A long list of players to exit, and harder issue of getting quality through the door.
The lack of links, worries me. Being quiet usually means ineffective at Everton, rather than clinical stealth.
