A 71-year-old man was arrested after racist abuse during Everton’s Premier League match against Manchester City on Monday night, which finished 3-3.
According to L'Équipe, Merseyside Police detained him on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after supporters and stewards reported the incident. He was later released on conditional bail, which includes a ban on being within 1.6 km of any sports ground from four hours before to four hours after a match.
The abuse is said to have targeted Antoine Semenyo.
Marc Guéhi was also subjected to a wave of racist messages on social media on Monday night.
Both players will continue to receive support, and the stance outlined was that discrimination has no place in the sport.
