With promotion-chasing FC Schalke 04 winless in their last five games in the 2.Bundesliga, concerns are starting to grown in the fanbase.
Trailing league leaders SV Darmstadt 98 by a solitary point after 21 games, the Royal Blues' ultras have asked supporters to rally behind the team during this tricky spell:
“Even before the winter break, we noticed a lethargy, a lack of motivation, and a lack of will within the stands. Unfortunately, this was evident in both home and away games.
“The coach, staff and team are a unit, that work is being done continuously and that our club, including the sporting management, is pursuing ideas and resulting goals sustainably.”
“Actually, all signs point to a positive outcome and there is little that should speak against a loud, emotional and escalating atmosphere in the stands," the ultras' statement explained.
With form taking a dip in recent weeks and concerns creeping into the terraces, the ultras sense increasing nervousness is inhibiting some fans' willingness to sing.
“When we're leading, everyone's tense about conceding an equalizer; when we're behind, everyone's tense about not being able to equalize.
“This means no one speaks up, which prevents us from influencing the events on the pitch in our favour.
"Each and every one of us in the stands is responsible. Everyone is responsible for creating an atmosphere that allows for nothing other than a victory for Schalke 04.
“Which might even lead to promotion at the end of the season,” the statement concluded – Schalke travel to take on Holstein Kiel at 13:30 CET this Sunday.
