Vincent Kompany is not only making an impression on the touchline at FC Bayern. Former companions also remember special details from his playing days. Gabriel Jesus now provides a revealing insight.

The Brazilian attacker spoke to Rio Ferdinand in the „Rio Meets“ format about the current Bayern coach and his development, and it quickly became clear what an impression Kompany had already made as a player.

Jesus and Kompany were on the pitch together at Manchester City between 2017 and 2019. While the Belgian played out his final years as a professional, the Brazilian was already part of the new generation in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Even back then, Kompany apparently stood out internally for his way of working. When asked whether he could imagine a coaching career for the defender early on, Jesus replied a curt „yes“.

He was even more specific when it came to Kompany’s appearance in everyday life: „He’s someone you walk into the dressing room and see him on his laptop, always working on soccer topics. He was even on his laptop playing Football Manager, so I knew straight away, we all knew.“

These statements fit in with the image Kompany also presents in Munich. He impresses not only with his analytical nature, but also with his human element. According to TEAMtalk, this is another reason why the 39-year-old is still one of the candidates at Manchester City for the time after Pep Guardiola.

The Belgian is considered an interesting option internally, not least because of his close ties to the club. He led the Skyblues onto the pitch as captain for over a decade and shaped one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Nevertheless, a transfer is currently considered unlikely. The German record champions have signed Kompany to a long-term contract until 2029 and are firmly planning on him as a central figure in their sporting future.
