Former Inter Milan goalkeeper and Italy international Francesco Toldo has praised Nerazzurri head coach Cristian Chivu ahead of Saturday’s Derby d’Italia game against Juventus.

Toldo won five Scudetti during his time at Inter and was a part of the squad who won the famous treble in 2009-2010, although he didn’t play in that season.

Toldo was also a starter for Italy at Euro 2000, where he helped the Azzurri reach the final.

Looking back on his memories as a player to Quotidiano Sportivo, with quotes via FcInterNews, Toldo recalled his fondest memories of the Derby d’Italia.

In 2002, Inter scored a last minute equaliser against Juventus at San Siro, where a melee, involving Toldo, resulted in Christian Vieri putting the ball in the back of the net.

Juventus head coach Igor Tudor played in that game, as well as Antonio Conte (who received a red card.)

“It was one of the funniest things I’ve experienced as a footballer.

“I try to remember our comebacks fondly.

“My goal against the Bianconeri in 2002 is the moment that sticks with me the most, even if it was actually an Inter-Juve match.”

Toldo: ‘Inter Milan Hired Chivu Because He Has The Quality’

Toldo also had some kind words for new Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu.

Chivu was hired this summer from Parma, after Simone Inzaghi departed Lombardy for a new adventure at Al-Hilal.

The appointment of Chivu raised some eyebrows, surprised at the Nerazzurri’s decision to appoint a relatively inexperienced coach.

However, Toldo dismissed any concerns.

“He is a person with excellent character.

“He arrived on the Inter bench rather early because he has the quality. It is clear that difficulties are to be expected at the beginning.”

However, their last match before the international break saw Chivu’s side lose 2-1 at home to a plucky Udinese.
