Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay says that he still believes in a “spectacular” Serie A title win over Inter Milan.

The Scottish international gave his thoughts in an interview published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Napoli are currently locked in a tight battle with Inter Milan at the top of the Serie A table.

For the moment, three points separate the two teams at the summit.

And it is defending champions Inter who have the advantage. But it is a very slender one indeed.

One result could be all it takes to bring the teams level – triggering a potential play-off for the Scudetto.

This past weekend was a stark reminder of how tight the title race really is.

Inter squandered a 2-0 advantage to drop points away to Parma, handing Napoli a huge opportunity.

However, the Partenopei blew a lead of their own away in Emilia-Romagna. They drew 1-1 with Bologna.

Midfielder Scott McTominay joined Napoli from Manchester United last summer. And already, the 28-year-old has had a big impact.

McTominay has certainly had his role to play in Napoli contending for the title.

Therefore, it could be a very memorable first season indeed for the Scot at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

And McTominay himself declared that “of course I believe in it.”

“Fully,” he continued. “We have to think we can win every match.”

Scott McTominay went on that “we have to keep getting the best out of every possible position.”

“I still believe that something spectacular can happen,” McTominday declared.

“We can’t panic now,” he added. “We have to realize where we are, and what we’re doing.”

“And then try to make the most of the position we’re in. And see where it takes us.”

The 28-year-old insisted that “we can’t have any regrets – but we have to keep holding our heads high.”

“We’re working hard, and we can have a great end to the season.”
