Joe Anderson has signed for Accrington Stanley on a two-year contract after leaving Barrow.
According to Sunderland Echo, the 25-year-old departed following Barrow's relegation from League Two and now returns to the EFL.
The left-sided centre-back came through Liverpool's academy before joining Everton at 15 in 2016. He signed his first professional contract with the Toffees in 2019, later extending it, then moved to Sunderland in January 2023.
He made his senior debut for the Black Cats the following month as a late substitute in a 1-1 Championship draw with Millwall. Anderson totalled seven senior appearances before spending 2023-24 on loan at Shrewsbury Town, where he played 30 times.
He joined Barrow from Sunderland in January and featured regularly in the second half of the season before departing.
Head coach John Doolan said Anderson understands levels, has the drive to succeed and has already played a number of EFL games. He added that the left-sided centre-half will take the opportunity with both hands.
The move comes amid a busy summer of change for former Sunderland players and offers Anderson a chance to re-establish himself in League Two.
