Murray Wallace is out of contract at Millwall and heading for Huddersfield Town.

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman feels that Murray Wallace can be an "absolute asset" to sides pushing for promotion out of League One this upcoming season.

Huddersfield and Blackpool have been busy in the transfer market already this summer and have already brought in solid centre-back options, with the Terriers securing Joe Low and Steve Bruce's Tangerines signing Fraser Horsfall and Michael Ihiekwe.

And the Terriers have made a breakthrough in their chase for Wallace, announcing him as their sixth summer signing.

Wallace, who has 258 Championship games under his belt, has been brought in to add even more defensive security ahead of a season where Huddersfield will be wanting to return to the Championship.

Former West Brom and Wolves forward, Don Goodman, believes that he will be a key signing as Huddersfield look to stamp their promotion credentials down before the season begins.

Pundit Don Goodman made sure to praise Murray Wallace's seven years at Millwall ahead of his departure from The Den during an exclusive interview with Football League World.

"First of all, what a servant Murray Wallace has been for Millwall, arriving from Scunthorpe and has done brilliantly, but last season, only eight starts in the Championship and 11 league game involvements. It's not enough for any age really," he said.

Wallace was used as a backup under Neil Harris and Alex Neil this past season, appearing in 30 league matchday squads, but only seeing game time in 11 of those.

He did make a run of eight straight starts across December and into January, but the Lions won just one of those games, and Wallace played just once more in the Championship following his last start against Sheffield Wednesday.

"I think he would be an absolute asset to either of those football clubs with all that experience," Goodman said of Huddersfield and Blackpool tussling for his service.

Goodman said: "He'll be wanting to play more and certainly the two clubs you mention, Huddersfield Town, who have been getting a lot of business done early, or Blackpool, who will be really going for it under Steve Bruce next season (can give him that)."

Huddersfield Town may have advantage in race for Murray Wallace

If it's game time that Murray Wallace will be prioritising in his next career move, then Huddersfield Town have the edge over Blackpool.

Whilst Wallace's recent experience in the Championship would make him one of the top players on either side, Blackpool's backline following their recent additions almost has them set for next season.

Horsfall and Ihiekwe joined a defensive unit which already includes Ollie Casey, and may still include Matthew Pennington, who is still in contract talks with the Seasiders.

Additionally, Huddersfield were the side who gave Wallace his breakthrough in English football back in 2012 when they signed him from Falkirk, and a reunion at the John Smith's Stadium may be a more attractive move for the 32-year-old this summer.

Blackpool already snagged a former Huddersfield man away from the Terriers this summer in Horsfall, and Lee Grant's side have ensured that the same won't happen again when it comes to Wallace.
