The Tigers are in a tough financial position this summer.

The club have been handed a three-window transfer fee restriction - which they are appealing - by the EFL as a result of the club failing to pay a £1m loan fee to Aston Villa as part of the Louie Barry deal last season.

As a result, City are currently restricted to signing free agents and loan players only until January 2027, so long as the deals don't involve Hull paying any sums of money.

Given the club's financial position, Hull have already sold a number of important first-team players this summer, with the likes of Alfie Jones, Marvin Mehlem and Sean McLoughlin all departing the MKM Stadium.

They may well be about to see their latest senior star make their exit too.

Football League World has exclusively been informed that Swiss giants Basel are targeting a move for City winger Abu Kamara.

Basel scouts were in attendance as the 22-year-old scored the winning goal in Hull's 2-1 victory over Sunderland on Tuesday.

It was revealed by Sky Sports earlier in July that Scottish outfit Rangers were also weighing up a deal for Kamara, who could be available for a bargain fee as a result of Hull's aforementioned financial problems.

Kamara only signed for Hull last summer from Norwich City, in a deal that reportedly set the Tigers back up to £4.5m with add-ons.

Basel's Kamara interest could work in Hull City's favour

Hull City will surely grow increasingly resigned to the fact they'll be losing Kamara this summer, as Basel are now preparing to move for his services.

They are coming off the back of winning their 13th Swiss Super League title in 24/25 - their first since 2017 - and can offer the young Tigers winger Champions League football.

As such, Kamara will surely be excited by the prospect of playing in that competition and for top European club, but their entry into the sweepstakes for his signature could work in Hull's favour.

Now that multiple top clubs are circling, there is every chance that a bidding war could now ensue, meaning his bargain price could be driven up to a fee that may mean Hull won't feel as shortchanged as they might have done.

Kamara has proven himself to be a quality player at Championship level, and the Tigers will be loathed to lose him this summer, but at least now they may have a better chance of receiving a significant fee for him.
