Lee Hendrie has told FLW his concerns about Sheffield Wednesday's ownership ahead of the new Championship season
Lee Hendrie believes that there could be long-lasting damage at Sheffield Wednesday if a takeover isn’t sorted out soon.
It was claimed by journalist Alan Nixon on Monday that nothing is close when it comes to Dejphon Chansiri selling his stake in the club.
It was previously reported that the Thai businessman has set an asking price of £100 million for the Owls amid financial issues.
Wages have gone unpaid in four of the last five months, which has led to an exodus of key players from the first-team squad going into the new Championship campaign.
Hendrie has expressed his surprise at the fact this situation remains ongoing given the situation began to unravel back in March.
He raised his concerns for the club going into the new season, claiming this issue needs to be resolved immediately to avoid any long-term damage.
“I’m really surprised Sheffield Wednesday haven’t sorted this out,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“It’s been ongoing and ongoing and ongoing.
“My only fear for Sheffield Wednesday is you’re going into a season with lots of uncertainty, obviously players gone, just lots of mess off the pitch.
“Where and when they’re going to approach this season, and how they’re going to start, it’s really, to be fair from a Sheffield Wednesday point of view, it’s disappointing.
“I’m so shocked that they haven’t resolved, or got close to even getting this takeover sorted out, but again it just seems to be ongoing.
“I do fear that this could be really damaging for the football club if it’s not sorted out ASAP.”
Sheffield Wednesday are scheduled to face Leicester City in the opening game of the new Championship season on Sunday in a 4.30pm kick-off.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters have seen their club go through a terrible summer that has led to a lot of uncertainty over their future.
Chansiri needs to take greater responsibility for his actions when it comes to the Owls’ turmoil, and that involves taking swift action to ensure a sale goes through quickly.
Setting a £100 million asking price is unreasonable at this stage, as no one is going to want to invest that much into a club that’s going so far backwards.
If no resolution is found soon, then Sheffield Wednesday could be in a lot of trouble, and Chansiri will be the man to blame if that time ever comes. The latest news suggests John Textor is looking to be a part of an American consortium to save the Owls.
