Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a summer move for Tom Lawrence.
Blackburn Rovers are one of several clubs being linked with a move for Rangers forward Tom Lawrence.
The 31-year-old is set to be out of contract at Ibrox this summer, so there is every chance that he will be available on a free transfer during the upcoming transfer window, which has put him on the radar of several clubs in the EFL and abroad.
The Welsh international is reportedly attracting interest from Blackburn, Burnley, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, West Bromwich Albion and Wrexham in the EFL, while clubs in Greece are also said to be keen, as per the Daily Mail.
Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael could easily already be considering ways in which he can strengthen his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, as he will no doubt be unhappy with how the current squad has performed since he arrived at Ewood Park earlier this year.
Whether Tom Lawrence is someone that the Frenchman is targeting remains to be seen, but he is a player who could potentially add some much-needed Championship experience to the squad if he was brought to the club this summer.
Sky Sports pundit, Don Goodman, spoke exclusively to Football League World about Blackburn's reported interest in Lawrence, and explained that he feels the club needs to make more exciting signings this summer.
"A move to Blackburn Rovers? I would say it is more of an appropriate move than to Burnley, going to Blackburn," Goodman said.
"However, I am just looking at the way that the club is at the moment. There seems to be zero trust by the fans to the owners, to the Director of Football, to the Chief Executive, to the people that recruit the players.
"Their transfer business has been really underwhelming, and I suspect that if Tom Lawrence was signed at Blackburn Rovers, I am not sure that it would be a signing that would really excite the fans.
"It seems to me like the next signings they do make at that football club need to be the ones that excite the fans."
If his last spell in the Championship is anything to go by, Lawrence could be a shrewd acquisition for a second tier club this summer, especially if he is available on a free transfer.
After his loan spell at Ewood Park during the 2015/16 campaign, he made 20 goal contributions for Ipswich Town the following season, before enjoying a successful period at Derby County, which earned him his move to Rangers.
If Lawrence is able to recreate the form he produced for Ipswich and Derby in the Championship between 2016 and 2022, there is no reason why Blackburn should not be looking to bring him back to the club.
Some Blackburn supporters have grown frustrated with Todd Cantwell this season, so a new attacking midfielder might be just what is needed this summer, and Lawrence is a player who could prove to be a useful creative option in that position.
It seems as though there will be plenty of interest in Lawrence this summer, but Blackburn could surely do worse than keeping tabs on his potential availability, although Don Goodman believes they should be targeting signings that will be more exciting for the fans.
