Lee Grant won his first match as a men's first-team manager by beating Leyton Orient 3-0 on Saturday.

Huddersfield Town got their new campaign underway with an impressive 3-0 win over Leyton Orient.

Big things are expected of Lee Grant's side in the 2025/26 season. They've chucked around a lot of money in order to bring in their 12 new signings to date, and many have tipped them to be the League One winners come May.

They didn't do much to worry any of those punters with their opening day performance against Richie Wellens' side, who were in the play-off final just a matter of months ago. Goals from fresh additions Joe Low and Alfie May gave the Terriers a 2-0 advantage before Ruben Roosken sealed the deal in the dying embers.

The game wasn't without some nervous moments for Grant, in his first match as a manager. Orient had chances to get on the scoresheet too, mainly through Aaron Connolly, but Town proved to be too much.

Huddersfield Town impress Sky pundit with 3-0 win over Leyton Orient

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman is one of the many believers in Huddersfield. He was impressed by their first competitive match back at the newly named Accu Stadium, and, worryingly for the rest of the division, he sees room for improvement.

"I think I've said frequently that I really like what Huddersfield Town have been able to do in the transfer market so far and they got most of their work done pretty early as well," Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

"Obviously, the Alfie May signing was quite a late one. But eight new signings started against Leyton Orient, who were bound to be a really good test for Huddersfield, given that they only lost in the play-off final. And they went to Huddersfield and beat them 4-1 just a few months ago.

"So the turnaround was immense. And the good news for Huddersfield is there was clearly still room for improvement and the group of players are only going to get better. So it is looking good.

"I like the look of Huddersfield Town on paper. And certainly that opening day victory hasn't done anything to dampen my enthusiasm about them."

Huddersfield's litany of amazing players will kill most of their opponents

What many third tier sides are going to struggle with against Huddersfield is the ridiculous strength in depth that they have. Roosken came off the bench for an injured Sean Roughan in the first half. His goal was set up by Joe Taylor, who the Terriers paid £x million for in the last winter window.

Dion Charles, David Kasumu and Lasse Sorensen were also brought on by Grant in the later stages of the match. The combination of those players with fresh legs up against what should often be inferior opponents who have tired legs is a recipe for disaster for those having to face up to the Terriers over the next 10 months.
