Swansea are interested in a loan deal for Southampton forward Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Football League World can exclusively reveal
Swansea City are interested in striking a late loan deal for highly-rated Southampton winger Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Football League World understands.
It has been a disastrous month for the Welsh side, who have slipped from the top-half of the Championship table to a potential relegation battle after losing four of their last five matches in a run which has included heavy defeats to Norwich, Portsmouth and bitter rivals Cardiff City.
Swansea’s recent implosion has prompted growing fan pressure on Luke Williams, who yesterday confirmed an impending switch to Coventry City for midfield stalwart Matt Grimes.
A positive end to the current window, then, will be key to lifting the mood around the Swansea.com Stadium at the minute.
Sources close to FLW have revealed that Swansea are keen on landing Amo-Ameyaw’s services on loan for the remainder of the campaign in what would be a huge potential boost in SA1.
If signed, Amo-Ameyaw would become Swans’ second acquisition of the window after the loan signing of Burnley defender Hannes Delcroix.
The 18-year-old winger has been earmarked for a loan away from Southampton, with both himself and new boss Ivan Juric seemingly eager for a switch to happen.
Amo-Ameyaw has found game time hard to come by for the Premier League strugglers this term, making just two appearances, though he did make something of a mini-breakthrough at first-team level under Russell Martin last time out.
The England U19 international made seven appearances throughout the 2023/24 season, which Southampton ultimately signed off with promotion back to the Premier League, and scored his first professional goal earlier this term in a 5-3 EFL Cup second-round victory over Cardiff.
Amo-Ameyaw would be an exciting signing for Swansea, who surely are not going to be alone in pursuing his services.
Tricky and direct, the wide-man is blessed with real pace and is versatile enough to operate on either flank - though he is most at home playing wide-right.
He has, as many Southampton supporters would argue, shown more than enough in his cameo appearances over the last eighteen months to merit consistent playing time in the Championship, a level which he would be expected to find his feet at.
