Don Goodman has delivered his verdict on Nathan Broadhead's Wrexham move.

Wrexham AFC are set to smash their transfer record for the third time this summer with the signing of Ipswich Town forward Nathan Broadhead.

Broadhead began his youth career at Wrexham before joining Everton's academy at ten years old, so the potential signing would certainly be a full-circle moment for him and his family.

During the 23/24 season, he scored 13 goals in 38 league appearances as the Tractor Boys secured promotion to the Premier League.

East Anglian Daily Times report that the deal will set the Red Dragons back around £7.5m - which beats the reported £3m paid for Lewis O'Brien and apparent £4m on full-back Liberato Cacace.

Don Goodman believes Wrexham would have "huge coup" in Nathan Broadhead

Speaking exclusively to FLW about the prospective transfer, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has delivered his verdict on what would be a landmark move for the Welsh outfit.

"Well, if Wrexham do pull it off, the Nathan Broadhead signing, it is a huge coup for them," Goodman told FLW.

"The last time Nathan was in the Championship with Ipswich, the season before last, 13 goals in 38 games was a really good return and he was a key part in Ipswich winning promotion to the Premier League," he added.

Once again, this fee is another example of the Hollywood-backed club's continued ambitious spending as they prepare for their first Championship campaign since 1982.

Aside from O'Brien and Cacace, owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have managed to bring in other players with proven experience - perhaps most notably Josh Windass, who scored 13 goals for Sheffield Wednesday last season.

Former EFL striker Goodman noted that Broadhead struggled during Ipswich's top-flight campaign, as did most of the Tractor Boys squad, telling FLW, "Like all the Ipswich players - probably with the exception of Liam Delap last season - he probably struggled at the level.

"But yes, Wrexham are clearly a very ambitious club with a project to try and get to the Premier League as quickly as possible, and he would certainly be a boost to their ranks," he continued.

Goodman believes the move has potential to be an excellent piece of business for both clubs, "He’d be a certain starter almost week-in, week-out and you’d expect him to do well - it is a lot of money - but it could be a win, win for all parties."

Broadhead representing Wales likely made him stand out to Wrexham

Broadhead's international credentials surely add further weight to the potential signing, and Wrexham fans will surely be buzzing at the possibility they could see one of their nation's stars play at The Racecourse.

The Bangor-born forward has earned 14 caps for Wales, scoring twice and managing one assist. His most memorable moment in a Wales shirt came on his debut against Croatia in 2023, when he scored a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

His journey to play on the international stage wasn't straightforward though, with Broadhead revealing the frustration of missing out on multiple selections due to injury. "Every time I got called up I've been injured," he told The Independent.

"I've had loads of knock-backs in my career and the timing's been a bit of an issue with Wales," Broadhead added.

With just one year remaining on his current deal with Ipswich, there's no arguing that the Tractor Boys are potentially getting the highest value they can from Wrexham.

But Goodman's assessment does highlight how the Red Dragons are now able to attract a player of Broadhead's calibre, who has Premier League and international experience.
