The Algerian national team left a strong impression during the March international break.

In their first friendly outing, the Fennecs made light work of Guatemala, cruising to a resounding 7-0 victory thanks to goals from Ahmed Nadhir Benbouali, Farès Ghedjemis, Amine Gouiri (2), Achraf Abada, Hossam Aouar, and Riyad Mahrez.

They then managed to hold Uruguay, the two-time world champions, to a goalless draw (0-0).

To discuss the players who made the biggest impression during this March window, Foot Africa sought the insight of Mustapha Maza, former MC Alger player and ex-sporting director of USM El-Harrach. Here are his thoughts.

Personally, I was thrilled by the performances of Yacine Titraoui (Charleroi), who possesses the tactical awareness and abilities needed to become a key player in Vladimir Petkovic’s Algerian setup.I admire his profile; he combines a tremendous work rate with excellent technical skills. It's also worth highlighting Achraf Abada’s (USM Alger) impressive outing—he scored a stunning goal against Guatemala. I find his versatility very interesting, as he can play both as a central defender and as a right-back.I was also impressed by the technical ability of newcomer Farès Ghedjemis (Frosinone Calcio). He has a very strong left foot and could challenge Riyad Mahrez and Anis Hadj Moussa for a starting spot on the right wing of Algeria’s attack.I believe this trio has a strong chance of making Algeria’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup.

As a reminder, the World Cup draw placed the Greens in Group J alongside Argentina, Austria, and Jordan.
