Real Madrid have been very busy this summer, with four signings already wrapped up before the start of pre-season. Further additions are wanted, although the club has moved to distance itself from two players that have been linked in recent weeks.

Last month, Real Madrid issued a statement denying that any move had been made towards signing Michael Olise from Bayern Munich, and earlier this week, they repeated the trick when clarifying that they are not interested in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, who has been strongly linked with a summer move to the Bernabeu.

These statements are out of character for Real Madrid, who have regularly had links to players that have never materialised. Some clarity has now been given by Diario AS, who note that in these two cases with Olise and Fernandez, the club have been keen to distance themselves in order to maintain the good institutional relations they have with Bayern and Chelsea respectively.

Real Madrid wary of giving false hope to supporters

But the main reason relates to the Real Madrid fanbase, with club bosses keen for supporters not to have false expectations when it comes to possible signings. In no way do they want to harm the club or its fans, which is why the decision was made to clarify the situations with Olise and Fernandez.

There is little doubt that Real Madrid fans will appreciate the transparency that the club has shown in these situations. The general feeling now is that neither Olise nor Fernandez will join this summer, and it means that supporters can instead look at who could arrive instead to reinforce Jose Mourinho’s squad ahead of the 2026-27 season kicking off in August.

It remains to be seen who else Real Madrid manage to sign this summer. They’ve already had a strong start with Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva coming in, but Mourinho wants more before the transfer window closes.
