Leicester City's search for a new manager is one of the biggest stories in the Championship right now, and with the January transfer window closing on Monday, fans are looking for an end to the saga ASAP.

The Foxes sacked Marti Cifuentes last weekend after their 2-1 home defeat to Oxford United at the King Power Stadium, and with the East Midlands outfit potentially in a relegation battle, a new head coach is needed.

Supporters have longed for a head coach who connects with those in the stands once again, and Nigel Pearson's name has been touted by fans on a number of occasions over the course of the last few days.

However, on Thursday it was reported by The Mirror on their transfer news LIVE blog (13:53 on Thursday, January 29th) that the former Leicester boss is not in contention to take over at the King Power, leading to disappointment for one particular supporter.

Verdict made as Nigel Pearson ruled out of Leicester City contention

With the hunt for a Cifuentes replacement still ongoing, the thought of Pearson returning to the club was one that excited many of those in the stands in LE2.

Yet, this reunion will have to wait for another time, and when asked how he feels about the 62-year-old not returning to the Foxes, Football League World's Leicester Fan Pundit, Louchlainn Martin, said: "So we’re hearing a lot of rumours that Nigel Pearson isn't in contention for the Leicester job and nor has he even been contacted by Leicester City. It is something that's extremely disappointing.

"Every time Leicester lose a manager, Nigel Pearson's name is spoken about by many, many different fans and that's because Nigel Pearson is a loved figure at the football club. However, this vacancy more than the others screams Nigel Pearson to us fans because of the situation the club finds itself in.

"We're in a real dire situation at the moment in the Championship. We have a squad full of egos on high wages. We could potentially be in a relegation battle should a big points deduction hit. Us fans believe that a Nigel Pearson-type character would go a long way in trying to pull this squad together."

Louchlainn continued: "But not only that, the fact that the stadium of late has been pretty dead. The atmosphere is not what it used to be. The fan base is kind of split and Nigel Pearson, I can guarantee you would completely unite the fan base. That stadium, I don't care if we lost our first game under Nigel Pearson, the stadium would be bouncing just having him there in the dugout.

"So, it's very disappointing, but it's not a massive shock because there are rumours and have been rumours for a long time that the current owner, Khun Top, and Jon Rudkin, the director of football, do not have the best of relationships with Pearson.

"So, it's not a massive shock, but trust me, there are thousands and thousands of Leicester fans who would love Nigel Pearson to come back, and it is a big shame that it's not going to happen."

Nigel Pearson's Leicester City record in the Championship is outstanding

It's been 11 years since Pearson left Leicester, as he was replaced by Claudio Ranieri following the Foxes' Premier League survival in 2014/15. The Italian went on to win the title in his first year, but had his predecessor not kept the club in the division, he would not have had the chance to create their miracle.

Nevertheless, Pearson's finest days at the King Power Stadium came in the Championship, as he helped the team return to the Premier League, 10 years after they were relegated to the second tier.

Under the guidance of the former Bristol City manager, Leicester won 83 of their 167 games in the Championship, losing only 44 times. He guided the Foxes to two play-off campaigns, as well as the league title, and he would have brought order back to the East Midlands outfit.
