Daniel Farke has been charged with alleged misconduct by the Football Association after receiving a post-match red card against Manchester City on Saturday.

The FA said in a statement that, following the Premier League fixture on Saturday 28 February, it alleges he entered the field to confront match officials, contrary to Law 12, and that he has until Friday 6 March to respond.

The Leeds United head coach was dismissed by referee Peter Bankes after approaching him to question why added time was not extended, having been told by the fourth official that more would be played. Farke maintains he should not have been sent off, saying he was dismissed before finishing his sentence and that he neither swore nor used aggressive language.

Despite red cards usually carrying a one-match touchline ban for managers, he was on the touchline for Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, with the charge not issued before kick-off.

Leeds had considered appealing, believing refcam footage could clear him, but an unsuccessful appeal could bring a two-game suspension. With Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Norwich City approaching, Farke could accept a ban that would rule him out rather than risk a longer absence. A decision on any appeal is due by the same deadline.
