The FA is investigating alleged betting breaches by Liam McDonald, relating to his spell as Redditch United manager more than a decade ago. The Kettering Town boss previously led Hednesford Town, Rushall Olympic and Stourbridge.

A national newspaper claimed McDonald placed bets against his own team while in charge of Redditch between 2013 and 2016. FA rules forbid anyone involved in the game at step four and above from betting on football worldwide.

There is an ongoing investigation and no charges have been issued. It is not yet clear whether any action will follow.

During McDonald’s time at Redditch, the club competed in the Southern Premier Central, which sits at step three of the non-league pyramid. Kettering are currently pushing for a play-off place and meet fellow contenders Halesowen this weekend.

McDonald left Redditch in May 2016 for Hednesford, guiding them to fourth in the Northern Premier League before joining Solihull Moors after six months. He departed Solihull by mutual agreement in October 2017 with the team 23rd after taking eight points from 14 matches, then enjoyed a six-and-a-half-year spell at Rushall. He took charge of hometown club Stourbridge in May 2024, leaving after 13 months following a ninth-place finish amid stadium and financial uncertainty.
