Como coach Cesc Fabregas confirmed the club will donate all the proceeds from their Coppa Italia match against Sassuolo to the local community after the iconic lake flooded.
The club is based on the shores of Lake Como, one of the biggest tourist attractions in Italy, and has regularly seen top Hollywood stars in the stands during their visits to the area.
The lake flooded due to extreme weather and Fabregas posted images on his social media account of the view from his window, where cars struggled to drive through deep water on the roads.

“My thoughts are with everyone in Como today. Seeing our beautiful lake flood and the damage it has brought is heartbreaking. Como is more than just a city to me, it is home, it is family, it is community,” he wrote on Instagram.
“To all the people, families, and businesses affected, please know you are not alone. We are with you, and I believe in the strength and unity of this city. Together, we will get through this and see Como shine again.
“The club will donate all the proceeds from the Italian Cup match against Sassuolo, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, to support the local community during this difficult time.”
The Second Round tie is due to be played at the Stadio Sinigaglia and is not believed to be at risk following the flooding in the area.
Fabregas first came to Como as a player in August 2022, making 17 appearances with two assists in Serie B.
Following retirement, he joined the coaching staff, eventually helping them to their historic promotion into the top flight.
