Ajax have Aston Villa’s Lamare Bogarde (21) high on their wish list for next summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The young defender who played in the Feyenoord youth team has made five Premier League appearances this season.
Lamare is the nephew of Winston Bogarde, former defender and former assistant coach of Ajax. Familial link aside, the Amsterdammers have him in their thoughts, and reportedly face competition from Sevilla.
Bogarde’s contract runs until mid-2026, but an extension in Birmingham is also still on the table. According to coach Unai Emery, Bogarde offers ‘stability when Aston Villa needs him’.
Born in Rotterdam, the defender played in the Feyenoord youth team until 2020. Villa then sealed his signature for 600,000 euros and loaned him out to Bristol Rovers twice before he broke through into the Premier League at the start of this season. Bogarde has played a total of 11 official matches for the Aston Villa first team, including three in the UEFA Champions League.
Bogarde’s career roles have varied, consisting of appearances at right-back, centre-back and even in defensive midfield. Ajax have been looking for a new right-back since the departure of Devyne Rensch.
Anton Gaaei was the only man in that position until Lucas Rosa was brought in on Deadline Day. He has yet to make his debut and it remains to be seen whether his arrival will prove to be successful.
