Manchester City have opened negotiations with Elliot Anderson’s representatives over a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, as per reports.
The Blues have identified Nottingham Forest‘s Elliot Anderson as their primary midfield target ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, with director of football Hugo Viana leading City’s push to accelerate a deal for the England international before the FIFA World Cup gets underway across the Atlantic this summer.
Anderson has been the subject of consistent interest from Manchester City for several months, with the 23-year-old widely regarded as one of the most complete young midfielders in the Premier League following another impressive season at the City Ground. City are understood to believe they can beat Manchester United to his signature.

The Blues’ need for midfield reinforcement is well-documented, with club captain Bernardo Silva confirmed as a departure when his contract expires in June and the future of Rodri still far from resolved amid ongoing interest from Real Madrid.
Speaking in a new video on his YouTube channel, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has detailed that Manchester City have started negotiations with Anderson’s camp to bring the midfielder to the Etihad Stadium.
However, nothing is advanced between the two clubs at this stage, with City keen to respect Nottingham Forest throughout the process.
The measured approach is consistent with City’s handling of transfer negotiations under Viana, who has shown a preference for conducting business professionally and without unnecessary public pressure on selling clubs.
Forest have set a £100-120 million asking price for the Newcastle-born midfielder, representing a significant financial hurdle for City at a time when they are simultaneously managing a wide range of outgoings and contract situations at the Etihad Stadium.
Anderson recently broke his silence on transfer speculation linking him with a move to City, with the midfielder’s camp now understood to be in active dialogue with the Blues as both parties look to agree personal terms before formal negotiations with Forest are stepped up.
