Fantasy Premier League is back after an extended break and we are straight into the stage of the season when chip strategies take on huge importance.
Some of you have already activated your chips this season, but many of you will have saved them for the double and blank gameweeks that will dot the final month and a half of the campaign.
Six teams will play twice in GW33 following last weekend’s FA Cup results: Brighton, Bournemouth, Burnley, Chelsea, Leeds United and Manchester City. These same teams will have no fixture the following gameweek.
There is also a chance we will get another double in GW36 and possibly in GW37, but that is dependent on cup results and how Crystal Palace progress in Europe.
With all this in mind, when is the best time to use your Wildcard (WC), Free Hit (FH) and Bench Boost (BB)?
FPL Deadline: Friday, 10 April, 18:30 BST

Note: If you’re reading this after the GW32 deadline, you can ignore this one and move on to the next.
This strategy makes sense on paper if you have all of your chips left. You can fill your team with doublers on WC right now, field up to 15 players on BB next week, and then replace them on FH the week after.
The big issue with this one is that you could be breaking up a solid team and selling good players for the sake of the doubles, which doesn’t always pay off. Someone like Igor Thiago, one of the best forwards in FPL this season, would have to be transferred out. Additionally, Man City and Chelsea play each other, so you will possibly have six players from both sides, which is not optimal.
Teams such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Liverpool will need to be avoided to maximise the BB, but these sides all have a decent run of fixtures after GW33.
If you choose not to WC ahead of GW32, then you can use the FH to bring in 11 players with two fixtures in GW33. You can then WC in GW35 to prepare for the potential doubles in GW36, allowing you to field up to 15 players who play twice.
This strategy works especially well if you already have a strong team in GW32 and 34, while allowing you to avoid holding onto Chelsea, Bournemouth and Brighton players long-term. The problem is that the BB in GW36 will not be as good as it will be in GW33.
If you’ve already got a good team for GW32 but not for GW34, then wildcarding in GW33 might be the answer. You can still pick up the best players in the DGW and it allows you to hold onto your Arsenal picks, while also covering for the blank gameweek. Your BB will not be as good in GW35 as it would be in GW33, but it does leave open the possibility of using the Triple Captain chip in GW36 when City will possibly have two fixtures.
