Leeds United were held 1-1 by Manchester United at Elland Road, extending a 23-year league wait for a home win over their rivals.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Brenden Aaronson put Leeds ahead before Matheus Cunha levelled three minutes later. The hosts also struck the post, were denied by Seene Lammens and finished the stronger side.

Aaronson’s composed finish capped a gritty display and continues an upturn in end product, now two goals and three assists. Jaka Bijol excelled in the first half with timely aerial work and last-ditch defending, underlining his growing assurance in the Premier League.

It was a tougher afternoon for Lucas Perri, whose hesitation proved costly, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin was limited by meagre service and saw a header hit the woodwork. Daniel Farke covered his face with both hands after Perri sliced a simple ball out in the final minute of the half.

Ruben Amorim’s press conference veered off course after a question about his position, as he repeatedly stressed he was a manager, not a head coach, and said he would not quit. He was dismissed the following morning.

The press room was packed, with Mateusz Klich sharing space with Jaap Stam and Steve Bruce. Sam Chambers knocked passes with Sean Longstaff and Sam Byram in the warm-up, Willy Gnonto dared Ao Tanaka to find the top right-hand corner from 25 yards and he obliged. Chris Domogalla and Farke complained to fourth official Robert Jones over a Calvert-Lewin incident, Klich’s half-time interview was inaudible in the West Stand, Calvert-Lewin urged Perri to go longer with his kicks, and Noah Okafor, Ilia Gruev and Dan James visited the Manchester United dressing room area.
