Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for a midfielder this summer, and one of the names that has periodically appeared is Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister. However it seems the Argentina international is not on course to land at the Santiago Bernabeu, at least as things stand.
Following two years of struggles in midfield after the exit of Toni Kroos, it does appear that Real Madrid will now target a central midfielder in the transfer market this time around. Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez has been heavily linked to Los Blancos, but it is not yet clear who they will move for. Mac Allister was linked to Los Blancos at the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s spell, but following a difficult season at Liverpool, that talk has quietened.

Mac Allister is at a crossroads in his Liverpool career, with two years left on his deal on Merseyside. They are yet to offer him a new deal, which would suggest that they may consider cashing in on Mac Allister, who arrived from Brighton and Hove Albion for €42m this summer.
This week, Argentine daily Ole (via Diario AS) claimed that Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid were both interested in signing Mac Allister this summer, as they look to strengthen in midfield. Yet his father, Carlos Mac Allister, has denied at least one half of that interest to Erem News, also quoted by AS.
“What has been circulating about Alexis is false. No one from Real Madrid has spoken to us so far. There is no new information about Alexis’s current situation at Liverpool.”

In theory at least tick a lot of boxes for the attributes that have been lacking for Los Blancos over the last two seasons. Talented on the ball, with a range of passing and good vision of the game, Mac Allister could partner Aurelien Tchouameni at the base of midfield. Where he might clash with their desires is that of late, Real Madrid have tended to sign more physically gifted midfielders, and at 27, Los Blancos tend to target younger players for big-money transfers.
