Fausto Vera has joined River Plate on a one-year loan with an option to buy, the club confirmed, becoming their first signing for 2025.
The midfielder signed his contract on Friday alongside President Stefano Di Carlo in the club’s presidential office in Núñez.
Marcelo Gallardo now has his first reinforcement for 2026, a year in which he will need to freshen his side and approach the Copa Sudamericana with optimism.
A product of Argentinos Juniors, Vera captained Argentina’s Under-23s and featured at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, staged in 2021.
After his 2018 top-flight debut, he established himself at Argentinos before moving in 2022 to Corinthians for $7 million for 70% of his rights.
He made 96 appearances for the Timao across three years, then was sold midway through 2024 to Atlético Mineiro for $5 million after losing league minutes.
At Mineiro, he reunited with Gabriel Milito and reached the Copa Libertadores final, starting in the semi-final that eliminated River 3-0 on aggregate, before losing 3-1 to Botafogo.
Under Jorge Sampaoli this season, Mineiro finished runners-up in the Sudamericana, losing the final to Lanús. Vera started 21 of his 32 games, and the club opted for a loan.
