On Tuesday, Toni Kroos admitted he understood Vinicius Junior's anger and frustration after being subbed off during El Clasico. But this Wednesday, the former German midfielder discussed Barça on his podcast Einfach mal luppen. "I've always said how important Iñigo Martínez (now at Al-Nassr, editor's note) was in my opinion. Of all Barça's center-backs last season, he was the one who progressed the ball best out of his own half. He wasn't the fastest, but he was excellent at winning the ball back and his distribution was outstanding. Against Real Madrid, his absence was noticeable at times, especially during Madrid's pressing. They didn't replace him, and his absence is sorely felt." he began.

He then took a swipe at another Barça player: "At center-back, I don't understand why Eric Garcia played, who, technically, is slightly better than Araújo. But Araújo has the physical power to press his opponents more, especially when defending high up the pitch. He would have been the ideal player for this style of play and this opponent. Honestly, I don't get it. Against Mbappé and Vinícius, you need someone who can keep up with their pace. Araújo can do that. His absence really surprised me."
