Former Barça player and coach Xavi has finally come clean in recent hours.
After leaving FC Barcelona as a player, Xavi returned to the club in 2021 to take charge as head coach, a position he held until 2024. In the past few hours, the Spanish tactician has opened up about the challenges the Blaugrana faced toward the end of his tenure. Speaking at a conference at "ESIC Universidad," Xavi even admitted to making a managerial mistake.
"My mistake was maintaining high standards for only one year. I did it from my arrival right through to winning La Liga and the Super Cup. After I left, I took a hard look at myself and asked: 'What happened to me?'. I started my coaching career at Barça by demanding a lot from the players and the club, because the club was coming off a period with very few demands. But then I lowered my standards, and the players no longer had the same attitude, the same respect, the same effort. The standards kept dropping until, in my final season, we didn't win a single trophy. I learned a lot from that experience. I had to be self-critical," admitted the former midfielder.
