Currently, MLS is on a brief pause due to the World Cup, but the transfer market is heating up each day. In early June, there were reports of interest from three MLS clubs in Juan Fernando Quintero.
Also, there is interest from Europe for Gabriel Pec. Still, this time the club that appears is FC Dallas, which is interested in signing a new goalkeeper to reinforce the team for the regular season.
According to Leandro Vaquilla, an Argentine journalist, Dallas wants a veteran goalkeeper playing for River Plate.
FC Dallas GKs roster is composed of three young players, like Jonathan Sirois, Michael Collodi, and Brooks Thompson.
Although Dallas is performing well in MLS, the manager believes that relying solely on young players is not enough; the team is missing the experience and leadership that veteran players provide.
That’s why FC Dallas wants to sign Franco Armani, River Plate’s goalkeeper and 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina.
The Pulpo is a solid footballer to have on goal, but his age must not be ignored, as the former GK for Atlético Nacional of Colombia is 39 years old.
Also, Armani hasn’t played this season with River Plate as he was recovering from an injury. Nevertheless, the addition of a player with Armano’s career would be beneficial for the young GK roster of The Hoops.
A small detail that makes this deal even better is that in six months, the 2021 Copa America champions will be a free agent.
This season, Franco Armani played two games, allowing two goals. With that said, as I mentioned before, the veteran footballer is recovering from an Achilles tendon issue.
Nevertheless, when the Octopus was healthy, he was one of the best Argentine goalkeepers, even considered better than Emiliano Dibu Martinez by Lionel Scaloni for the Argentine national squad.
So, if FC Dallas wants a player who can deliver experience, Armani is your man.
However, given the strong season FC Dallas is having, I wouldn't bring in a player who is likely to expect regular playing time when the club already has better options available on the bench.
