After José Barcala’s side visited Tokyo last week for the Allianz Women’s Tour, the team set foot back on Bavarian soil on Monday evening. The sporting highlight of the trip was the convincing 4-1 win over Japanese top-flight outfit RB Ōmiya Ardija in the opening friendly. This week at the Campus, it’s been an intensive week of training leading up to the meeting with their Bundesliga rivals from Franconia – an important step on the road to the Supercup, which marks the competitive start of the season in two weeks’ time.

This will already be the fifth pre-season friendly for the Clubfrauen. After a 6-0 win in a charity match against SV Weinberg, FCN claimed a 3-1 victory over Dutch runners-up Ajax. That was followed by a 1-0 defeat to FC Carl Zeiss Jena, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, before a 0-0 draw in another tough test against TSG Hoffenheim. Head coach Omar Adlani’s side are currently completing a training camp, which finishes with the clash with FC Bayern Women. The Munich girls came out well on top in both league encounters in the previous campaign, winning 6-0 and 2-0. Nürnberg finished the 2025/26 Women’s Bundesliga season in 11th place.

Team news

Bernadette Amani is still away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, which started last weekend and finishes on 16 August.

Anna Klink (metacarpal fracture), Giulia Gwinn (rehab after shoulder operation) and Vanessa Gilles (muscular injury) also remain unavailable, while Lena Oberdorf, Sarah Zadrazil and Sophie Proost are not yet ready to feature in the second friendly. Edna Imade and Franziska Kett both sustained ankle injuries in training on Thursday and have been ruled out for several weeks.

Glódís Viggósdóttir: “We’re really looking forward to this next test in pre-season. It’s important for us to be back on the pitch and experiencing real match situations – precisely the things we constantly practise in training. We’re up against strong opponents in Nürnberg, which we’re excited about. They’ll challenge us in exactly the areas where we want to improve.”
