Manchester United are working on signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to a report from Spain.

Once an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s line-up, owing to his intensity and versatility, Valverde is now facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu, having struggled to find a settled role.

Former Real boss Xabi Alonso often overlooked the Uruguay international to accommodate the likes of Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham. It is not far-fetched to assume that the same could happen under Álvaro Arbeloa, as the Spanish giants are blessed with a number of quality midfielders.

Manchester United make offer for Federico Valverde

According to E-Noticies, as relayed by TEAMtalk, Manchester United have submitted an offer of €120 million to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid.

The Catalan based outlet claims United have “put on the table an offer of close to €120m” for Valverde, who is believed to be dissatisfied with his current role in the Spanish capital.

The 27-year-old has told Real that “he needs a project that trusts him as a complete midfielder, with stripes and real responsibility in the game.”

The report adds: “The proposal seduces Valverde, they guarantee him to play in his natural position, with freedom to reach the area and offensive weight.”

Valverde is under contract with the Champions League giants until the summer of 2029.

Manchester United have different plans

It has been widely reported that INEOS’s priority is to strengthen United’s midfield and the club’s hierarchy plans to spend significantly to revamp the area.

However, it is understood United refused to sign a midfielder in January for Ruben Amorim, causing friction between the Portuguese head coach and Jason Wilcox, the club’s director of football.

The Premier League giants’ preference is to sign new midfielders in the summer when they will have a bigger budget. As such, the claim that United have already made an offer for Valverde should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Furthermore, United are keen on signing Premier League-proven midfielders and are closely monitoring Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba.
