FEMAFOOT: FIFA and CAF call for an extraordinary general assembly
The crisis within the Malian Football Federation is expected to reach a resolution in the coming weeks. FIFA and CAF have laid out a roadmap that includes organizing an extraordinary general assembly to elect a new executive committee and its president.
Contrary to widespread predictions following the major paralysis at the Malian Football Federation caused by the resignation of 13 executive committee members—which automatically led to the president stepping down—there will be no normalization committee.
In a joint letter dated February 5 and addressed to the secretary general of the Malian Football Federation, FIFA and CAF acknowledged the resignation of the board led by Mamoutou Sangaré.
The two governing bodies are leaving it up to the secretary general, as stipulated by the statutes, to handle FEMAFOOT’s day-to-day affairs. Sidi Bekaye Magassa is also tasked with organizing an extraordinary general assembly to elect a new executive committee within the regulatory deadlines and in accordance with existing rules.
The entire process will be supervised by both the world and African football governing bodies.
