Roma center-back Mario Hermoso could leave Serie A sooner than expected after enduring a stuttering start at the Stadio Olimpico. According to Calciomercato, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have taken a genuine interest in the former Atletico Madrid star.
Hermoso joined Roma on a Bosman deal in the summer after running down his contract at Estadio Metropolitano. Despite arriving with a reputation as one of Europe’s most dependable defenders, the 29-year-old has struggled to adapt to life in Italy.
Following an injury-hit start to the season, Hermoso has never regained his old form. Indeed, he has made just eight appearances in Serie A. However, five of those eight matches came as a second-half substitute, highlighting the Spaniard’s disappointing career at Roma.
Therefore, the Giallorossi could consider offloading their underperforming newcomer already in January. Fenerbahce could be Hermoso’s next destination. Former Roma manager Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new center-back and has set his sights on Hermoso.
On the other hand, Roma are scouring the market for reinforcements. Racing Club starlet Marco Di Cesare has landed on the club’s radar. But they’ll need to beat fellow Italian rivals Inter to the Argentine’s signature. Moreover, Luiz Felipe is another name on Florent Ghisolfi’s shortlist.
The ex-Lazio star is currently a free agent. Indeed, he fell out of favor with Al-Ittihad, resulting in an immediate contract termination. Fenerbahce aren’t the only Turkish club willing to do business with Roma this winter.
Ghisolfi confirmed earlier this week that Roma will listen to offers for Paulo Dybala amid growing links with Galatasaray.
