Fenerbahçe have held clandestine talks over Mohamed Salah’s post-Liverpool future, but negotiations are now on hold amid club elections and a sizeable salary demand.

A Spor reports that board member Ertan Torunoğulları led two meetings in Kadıköy with Salah’s representatives, pitching the club’s vision and seeking an early commitment ahead of rival interest from the Saudi Pro League and MLS.

Salah is said to prefer staying in Europe to remain at peak fitness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a stance that briefly boosted Fenerbahçe’s hopes against higher-paying Middle Eastern options.

The impasse centres on money, with Salah’s camp requesting an annual €20 million, a figure unprecedented in the Süper Lig. The board is split on whether to stretch the wage structure or spread funds across several younger signings.

A third meeting had been pencilled in after the Intercontinental Derby against Galatasaray on April 26, but the process has been suspended during an extraordinary general assembly and board elections. Outgoing president Ali Koç and his team have frozen major financial commitments, including this pursuit, so the new board can set the 2026-27 budget.

Salah is confirmed to be leaving Anfield at the end of the 2025-26 season. Despite a minor hamstring scare earlier this week, he is fit for the run-in and scored against Fulham on April 11 and Everton on April 19. An emotional lap after the Champions League tie with PSG signalled the close of a nine-year era.
