N'Golo Kante has emerged as a target for Fenerbahce as he enters the final six months of his Al-Ittihad contract, raising the prospect of a return to Europe. The Saudi club remain keen to keep the midfielder beyond the summer.
L'Équipe reports that the Istanbul side want to sign the 34-year-old immediately rather than wait for his deal to expire. With the January window open, he can negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs.
Fenerbahce are targeting a marquee midfield addition and believe Kante fits, given his experience and pedigree. The club are prepared to commit significant funds to tempt him to Türkiye, ideally by paying a nominal fee to secure him now.
Al-Ittihad do not want to sell and are pushing to extend his contract, viewing him as central to their project. Kante has so far not responded positively to initial renewal proposals, which has encouraged suitors.
Since leaving Chelsea in 2023 he has performed at a high level in the Saudi Pro League and returned to France's Euro 2024 squad. His work rate and honours make him one of the market's most attractive options.
Fenerbahce may be first to show their hand, but competition is likely. If Al-Ittihad expect him to leave for free in June, they could consider the winter offer to recoup value. With the 2026 World Cup later this year in North America, Kante will know sustained form is vital to stay in Didier Deschamps' plans.
