Evan Ferguson continued to impress for the Republic of Ireland during the international break and Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini will ‘surely’ continue to rely on the Brighton loanee when Serie A resumes over the weekend, reports Gazzetta.

Brighton-owned striker Ferguson has had a promising start to life at Roma, delivering one assist in two appearances and quickly becoming the regular striker for the Giallorossi.

Thursday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport notes that the September break has given the 20-year-old a further boost, having scored a goal in each of the two Republic of Ireland games against Hungary and Armenia.

Ferguson seems to have adapted quickly at Roma, as reports over the summer already suggested that Gasperini preferred him to Artem Dovbyk.

The latter has made two substitute appearances with Roma this season.

During the international break, he failed to score against either France or Azerbaijan and even started the latest international match on the bench, being introduced only for the final 30 minutes.

Gazzetta reiterates that Ferguson will be given a starting spot again on Sunday, when Roma host Torino in Serie A Round 3.

The Giallorossi have secured six points in the opening two games, but may be forced to rest Wesley in the upcoming league game as the Brazilian is dealing with a minor muscle issue.
