According to Coluna Do Fla, the Rio de Janeiro state federation FERJ has appointed Alex Gomes Stefano to referee Flamengo v Sampaio Corrêa in the sixth round of the Campeonato Carioca on Saturday at the Maracanã.
His assistants will be Júlio César Souza Gaudêncio and Fábio Ramos França, with Michael Leal de Moura as fourth official and Jorge Fernando Rabello as refereeing assessor.
Paulo Renato Moreira da Silva Coelho will lead VAR, supported by Diogo Carvalho Silva as AVAR and João Marcos Gonçalves Fernandes as AVAR2. Cláudio José de Oliveira Soares is the VAR observer, and Wendel de Paiva Gouvêa the quality manager.
Stefano, 37, took charge of the Fla-Flu on 25 January, which Flamengo lost 2-1. There were no major complaints about the officiating, though players and staff criticised frequent stoppages, a recurring issue in Brazilian football.
Flamengo sit on four points with the worst goal difference in their group alongside bottom club Maricá, and are seeking to avoid the relegation quadrangular. Only a win will do.
They are outside the knockout places and must beat Sampaio Corrêa while hoping for at least one slip from Madureira, Boavista or Nova Iguaçu. The only route through without three points is a draw combined with a Nova Iguaçu defeat by five or more against Portuguesa.
Kick-off is 21:00 Brasília time.
