Barcelona’s third European fixture of the season saw them lock horns with Greek outfit Olympiacos at the Estadi Olimpic de Lluis Companys, and the Catalans took home all three points to keep the momentum ahead of the first El Clasico of the season.

Fermin Lopez opened the scoring on the night with a well-worked finish before making it 2-0 with another peach of a finish not long after.

Olympiacos pulled one back via a penalty in the second half, but tragically went a man down just minutes later after Santiago Hezze was given his marching orders.

Barcelona then won a penalty of their own past the hour mark, and Lamine Yamal stepped up and made it 3-1 for the home side, all but sealing the result.

Two goals from Rashford and Fermin’s third for a hat-trick then made it six for the hosts, completing the comprehensive win and giving the side all three points with conviction.

Barça Universal brings you the player ratings from Barcelona 6-1 Olympiacos.

Wojciech Szczesny: 6.5

The Polish goalkeeper did not have much shot-stopping to do on the night, with Olympiacos only threatening Barcelona’s goals sporadically. His distribution, however, was uncharacteristically sloppy.

The goalkeeper gave the ball away directly to the opponents’ feet on multiple occasions and was lucky that they did not capitalise on the same.

Alejandro Balde: 8

Balde had a strong game in terms of pushing forward in attack and combined well with Dro in the half-spaces.

His crosses looked more lethal than they were in the previous game and finished with an assist to his name for Marcus Rashford.

Pau Cubarsi: 7

The youngster looked far more composed than he did against Girona and led the defence in terms of holding his lines and his distribution.

Cubarsi was calm in possession despite Olympiacos’ desperate attempts to mount pressure on the defence and played the ball forward time and time again with ease.

Eric Garcia: 7

Garcia served as an able partner for Cubarsi and was crucial for the team’s recoveries, especially when the visitors caught them off guard with their vicious counter-attacks. He was solid with his distribution.

Conceded a penalty that helped the visitors pull one back on the night.

Jules Kounde: 7.5

While Kounde looked lost for ideas in attack and made a few sloppy passes, he was largely solid defensively and did well to keep the visitors’ menacing wingers at bay and long switches of play under control.

Marc Casado: 7.5

Casado entered the game at the risk of suspension should he pick up a yellow but continued to be his usual self anyway.

He did not fear heading into any harsh challenges and ensured the team’s press remained tight through the ninety.

Pedri: 8.5

Pedri’s composure under pressure enabled Barcelona to retain possession of the ball and progress the buildup forward at the right moments. It was he who won the ball back for Barcelona’s second goal on the night. Earned the assist for Rashford’s second.

Fermin Lopez: 10

The midfielder was the star of the show as he looked his usual vicious self in front of goal and did not hesitate to pounce on any chance he got to shoot.

Fermin combined brilliantly with Yamal for the team’s opener, which he eventually converted with great composure. He linked up with Dro for his second, once again seemingly slowing down time and making the right feints to get access to a clear shooting chance.

Completed his hat-trick for Barcelona’s fifth goal with a great volley off a Bardghji assist.

Dro: 7.5

The 17-year-old was impressive in tight link-up plays and did well to contribute to the press.

Helped churn up a big chance early in the game and eventually earned a well-deserved assist for Lopez’s second goal.

Lamine Yamal: 8

Yamal was a handful on the right flank for Barcelona, but hardly as menacing as he can be when at full flow. The player did well with his dribbles but lacked the end product that has become synonymous with his name.

Stepped up and scored the penalty with ease, making the conversion look ridiculously simple.

Marcus Rashford: 9

Rashford had a rough game, was constantly marked and manhandled, and at the receiving end of fouls.

Could well have scored in the first half with a shot that went just above the cross-bar and even came close with a free-kick which was a whisker wide. Won the team the penalty that helped bury the result.

Scored his first goal with a ridiculously calm strike from a complicated angle off Balde’s assist. Found the back of the net again minutes later with another outstanding strike from outside the box.
